　　劇情重點講述回到精神病院的NormanBates又給放了出來(究竟要放他出來多少次啊！)並跟精神病院女醫生結了婚，兩口子生活美滿，這一天Norman等待妻子下班慶祝他的生日，適逢電台正好播放著一個有關連續殺手及弒母病患的phone-in節目，促發他至電講述自己跟母親的關係，影片回朔到他的少年時期，如何謀殺母親和其情夫，以及如何開始殺害其他人的過程，到後來，他向主持人表白了自己今天想殺掉妻子的想法，因為她有了自己的骨肉，而他卻認定，瘋狂是遺傳的…

　　1983年，某学校的女子联谊会。凯蒂•罗斯（KateMcNeil饰）等一众青春女孩即将毕业，她们和宿舍的管理员斯雷特夫人（LoisKelsoHunt饰）夫人的关系不是很好。借此机会，她们决定戏弄一下这个古怪的老太婆，然而却无意中将其杀害。女孩们并未选择报警，在维姬（EileenDavidson饰）的提议下，她们将斯雷特夫人的尸体沉入游泳池池底。
　　次日，联谊会如期举行，女孩们强颜欢笑，试图忘记前一天发生的一切。然而错误的选择扭转了命运的走向。斯雷特夫人的怨念并未散去，就在当晚，恐怖的杀戮接二连三发生了……

　　Despitethestingofitswell-developedstory,thespellbindinglyatmosphericdirectionandtheengrossingperformancesdeliveredbytheentirecast,manyfansmayfindthisversionsomewhatdisappointing.Foratleastthreereasons:Asinthenovel,thepartplayedinthenarrativebySherlockHolmes,thoughvital,isminimal.Andinthisversion,notonlyhasnoattemptbeenmadetoenlargehisrole,ifanythingbothwriteranddirectordotheirbesttominimizeit.Holmesdoesnotevenmakehisentranceforhalf-an-hour,andwhenhedoesfinallyappear,hehashisbacktothecamera.ItisFritzOdemar,asDrWatson,whoreceivesthemorefavorablecameraangles.Andthereisapurposeinthis.ItisWatson,notHolmes,whofiguresasthemainprotagonistofTheHoundoftheBaskervilles.Forthebulkofthenarrative,Holmesdisappears.ItisWatsonandLordHenry(PeterVoss)whotakeuptherunning.Themovieisalmostover,beforeHolmesclosesinonthevillain.Andevenso,thisisnottheobsessed,self-importantHolmesweareaccustomedtoseetakingcharge.Anotherproblemisthatthetitlehounditselfdoesnotfigureagreatdealintheaction,adowngradingwhichwillundoubtedlyrateasanothermajordisappointmentforfans.Andfinally,itcouldbearguedthatthescriptgivestoomuchattentiontoConanDoyle'sredherring,theescapedconvict,andnotenoughtotherealvillain.
　　Thissaid,itmustsurelybeadmittedbyall,thatOdemar'sinterpretationofWatson—intelligent,charming,level-headed,courageousandresourceful—ismuchclosertoConanDoyle'sconceptionthaneitherthebungling,inveteratelystupidNigelBruceortheself-effacingIanFleming.
